Sexual behavior and self-esteem of patients with condylomata acuminata: a preliminary study
The aim of this study was investigate sexual behavior and self-esteem of individuals who suffer from sexually transmitted disease. Forty patients with condylomata acuminata and 34 patients with contact dermatitis as a control group from outpatient services of the Department were enrolled in the study. Bezinović´s sexual scheme inventory - a cognitive generalization about sexual aspects of oneself that have derived from past sexual experience of the subject, manifest in current experience, influential in the processing of sexually relevant social information, and guide sexual behavior were used. A questionnaire about socio-demographic data administered individually to both groups as well as Rosenberg´s Selfesteem Scale - a measure of self-esteem as a global dimension and inventory of readiness to behave in a health beneficial way. Significant differences were observed in sexual self-schemes, readiness for sexual actions, inclination to sexual adventurism, level of sexual well-being, and level of self esteem between the patients with condylomata acuminata and control group. Patients with condylomata acuminata showed a higher degree of readiness to follow physicians instructions regarding their own style of life in general.
