Copper corrosion in seawater under controlled hydrodinamic conditions : the influence of alloying and additives
Moderate corrosion resistance of copper in the sea environment is the reason of widespread use of copper in manufacturing of tubes, heat exchangers and condensers on ships, desalinization equipments, etc. The most frequent cause for copper corrosion in seawater is the change in fluid velocity and diffusion of dissolved oxygen. In the present paper, the influence of Ni content on the copper corrosion resistance in synthetic seawater under flowing conditions was investigated using electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques. The results obtained are compared with the data obtained for copper modified with sodium diethyldithiocarbamate (NaEt2dtc).
