Requirements and test methods for industrial floor overlays

Industrial floors often require the use of overlays such as polymer mortars or polymer-modified mortars for surface finishing. The choice of material that will be used as industrial floor overlay depends on specifics of industrial environment such as nature of manufacturing processes, heavy vehicle movement, loading/ unloading and storing of raw materials. In order to choose the correct overlay material for specific purpose, it is necessary to define relevant characteristics and use reliable test methods. Industrial floor systems consist of several layers of entirely diverse characteristics and all layers jointly assume the load by interaction. In the paper are shown overlay types, its application, properties and relevant test methods. In the experimental part there are shown results of testing adhesion of two overlay types on concrete substrate by pull-off method and abrasion resistance using Böhme abrasion test machine.
