The Integration of Western Balkans into the EU: Dilemmas and Perspectives of Changing the Perception of the Region
The paper deals with the regional dimension of identity and integration of Western Balkans into the European mainstream. It focuses on the achievements and challenges of the Stabilisation and Association Process (SAP) countries regarding establishing institutional relations with the European Union (EU), progress in reaching the EU membership criteria, regional cooperation, institutional capacity building, and readiness to efficiently absorb the pre-accession funds as well as challenges of future EU membership. It tries to give the answer on the following questions: how does integration into the EU affects the economic and political transformation of regional identity, what is the role of EU instruments in promoting economic and governance reforms in the region, what are regional development perspectives
