Analysis of vehicle vibrations caused by road surface irregularities
Pavement structure, beside its main purpose to have enough bearing capacity to stand the load produced by road vehicles, must ensure safe and comfortable driving. Various road surface irregularities (road roughness, fractures, dents caused by overlapping layers, immersed maintenance hole covers, speed bumps etc.) can not only affect driving comfort but cause damage to the vehicles. There are several factors that affect road surface condition. One of them is that during the construction time ideal straightness can never be achieved. Increased traffic load often exceeds designed values and speeds up surface degradation. Moreover, in order to prevent speeding in urban areas, speed bumps are often placed on different road sections. Traffic on badly maintained road surface forces drivers to spend more time in car mechanic workshops repairing more or less serious defects (mainly on suspension system or wheel geometry.
