Resistance in the PTSD Patient's Group
The war trauma experience, especially inprisoment and torture in the PTSD patients resulted with essential changes in their relations to themselves and to other people. Regression is very deep, and psychic numbing becomes the symbol for emotional state of these patients. Destroyed self-confidence and basic relation towards other persons essentially influences the character of communications which these patients create in the group therapy - from the entering into a group they are introverted, most often looking upon any results with a disbelief, to the point that the group becomes a safe medium for all the painful contents and, eventually, for "the reconstruction" of the object relations. During the development of the group processes in the "time limited" groups of the PTSD patients, besides usual resistances, some specific ones in the work with the psychotraumatized persons. From the materials got by recording and supervising of 15 cycles of 40 sessions groups of PTSD patients, conducted by a cotherapeutic pair, we have analysed the "traumatic" transference and countertransferrence and resistance in group process that appear in the group members, conductors and among the cotherapeutic pair.
