The age of and the distance to the young stellar cluster NGC 2244 in Northern Monoceros
v578 Mon is a double-lined eclipsing binary that is member of the young stellar cluster NGC 2244 which is embedded in the Rosette Nebula. A detailed photometric and spectroscopic analysis, including the Fourier disentangling of the spectra of its early-B type components, allows to improve the distance and age estimate of the cluster. NGC 2244 is amply 2x10^6 yr old and is situated at 1.39+/-0.1 kpc from the Sun.
