Intracellular trafficking of Francisella tularensis
Francisella tularensis is a facultative gram negative intracellular bacteria capable of infecting many different cell types including arthropode cells, mammals and amoeba cells. In this work we investigated intracellular trafficing of F. tularensis subsp. novicida in Acanthamoeba castellanii cells. In adition, we tested the role of FPI proteins, IglC and MglA, in the virulence of protozoa cells by confocal and electrone microscopy. Our results showed that trafficing of F. tularensis in amoeba cells shares similarities to mammal cells. IglC and MglA play an important role in the virulence of F. tularensis in amoeba cells.
