Organic-inorganic nanocomposite coatings for bone regeneration and repair

Metals used for replacement and/or repair of load bearing bones and teeth meet biomechanical requirements, but are bioinert or biotolerant and thus show poor integration with the surrounding bone. To facilitate integration of the implants into the surrounding hard tissue their surfaces have been coated with the biocompatible material, mostly some form of calcium phosphate. Nanocomposite coatings based on calcium phosphate with included bioactive organic macromolecules have been investigated.
