Impact of productivity and human resources on motivation in agro tourism activities

The paper examines whether, overall productivity and education levels among Croatian's counties have relevant effects towards agro tourism activity processed in rural households. The present work tests whether ex ante engagement in the agritourism sector is partly motivated by a desire to utilize the existing human capital and labour productivity on account of that. The main method of research is of an ex ante human capital and productivity estimation. Agro tourism activity is defined as the ratio of number of rural households which have some kind of tourist activity, accommodation or similar activity in total number of rural households among counties. After constructing the human capital variable and productivity variable for each county, we run four separate FGLS estimations of agro tourism participations, using the auxiliary regression from LM tests of homoscedasticity (Glejser, Breusch-Pagan, White, and Harvey-Godfrey tests), in order to evaluate the impact of productivity and human capital on participation to the agritourism sector. We took into account the exogenous nature of the human capital and productivity estimation. Our research results showed that, accordingly to what is usually assumed in the literature, more productive counties with higher standard of living are not more likely than others to engage in the agritourism sector than counties with better education in average have much more odds to take participation in agro tourist activity.
