Role of functional diagnostic methods in higher education programmes

Sport training is a condicted and controlled process promoting certain psychophysical, i.e. motor abilities and characteristics. The sport coach must be familiar with the principles of human growth and development, as wll as with adaptibility of those characteristics and abilities essential for promoting sport efficacy. Measurement and interpretation of athlete's somatic and functional findings is an unavoidable condition for optimal planning, programming and controlling the training process. Every educated trainer must be acquainted with sport functional diagnostics, methodology of particular tests, normative values and peculiarity of somatic and functionasl characteristics of athletes in his own sport. Therefore, it is proposed here to include the particular subject "Functional diagnostics" in the fond of 45 hours (15 lectures and 30 practices) in the education plan on higher coach schools. This konowledge would make them easy a significant part of their professional work and enable a qualitative and necessary co-operation with sport of medical centres of functional diagnostics.
