Fluid-Structure Interaction in Multibody Systems: Elastic Solid with Constrained Large Overall Motion in Fluid Flow
In this paper the problem of fluid-structure interaction of linearly elastic solid with kinematically constrained large “ rigid body motion” in fluid flow will be addressed. It is assumed that deformable solid undergoes large overall motion in fluid flow, but being exposed to the small structural deformations within multibody dynamical system. According to this assumptions, deformable solid is modeled by using floating frame of reference approach, where configuration of deformable body is modeled via reference coordinates that identify body large overall motion (large displacements and 3D rotations) and elastic coordinates of the body small deformations. The global position of an arbitrary point on the kinematically constrained deformable body is thus defined by using coupled set of reference coordinates and elastic coordinates. The structural FEM code, extensively used in aircraft engineering practice, will be used for determination of deformable body shape functions for elastic displacements expression. A spatial coupling algorithm that transfer the displacements from the elastic solid to the flow and the pressure loads from the fluid to solid surface will be based on Radial Basis Function interpolation with a compact support. The difference between conservative and consistent approach, while solving fluid-solid interaction with elastic solid large overall motion, will be tested. Incompressible fluid is modeled by Navier - Stokes equations and solved in OpenFOAM toolbox. Multibody system kinematical constraints will be treated via constraint manifold projection method presented.
