Polifenoli propolisa i biljaka u kontroli alergije i upale

The number of individuals that suffer from allergic diseases in developed countries has increased epidemically during the last decade. It is generally agreed that a combination of heredity and environmental factors is responsible for development of allergies. The evolution of these diseases has been far too rapid for genetics to be the sole explanation for their appearance. Of course, diet and the use of hygienic preparations in modern societies could be responsible for „normal“ development of immune system, which in many cases is responsible for the development of allergies and perhaps inflamation reactions. In a recent "back to nature move", modern man is searching for natural products with medicinal properties, particularly those obtained from plants and bees, that have got opportunity for a possible control of the generation of allergies and/or inflammations. Propolis has been used in folk medicine for a very long time. Laboratory and clinical research on propolis, phytochemicals and their flavonoids and other antioxidants suggest their use in the prevention and treatment of number of diseases, including allergy. This review summarizes the current knowledge regarding the mechanism(s) involved in generation of senzibilities and/or inflammation potential of polyphenolic/flavonoids components present in propolis on control of allergy diseases and and possible modes of antiallergy action.
