Self-organization of dynein motors generates meiotic nuclear oscillations
Key mechanisms necessary to account for the observed SPB movement are identified. A minimal one-dimensional description based on our measurements and the known physical properties of dynein motors is developed. Motors that attach to dynamic microtubules and link them to the cortex are considered. After redistributing via the cytoplasm, the motors attach along the leading microtubules, thereby generating the force asymmetry necessary for the oscillations.
