Design and synthesis of polynorbornane anion receptors with guanidine functionalities
Since anionic species are very abundant in nature, it is of great theoretical and practical value to investigate binding of those species toward host molecules. It is known that size complementarity is of a key importance in a design of molecules that act as hosts (receptors) for different anions.[1] Polynorbornane frameworks, which could be tailored in several sizes, are ideal for exploring aforementioned selectivity.[2] Apart that guanidine (and guanidinium cation) readily forms H-bonded complexes which makes it an excellent functionality for anion recognition.[3] The results of predictions of selectivity of bis- guandiine molecules of interest 1-2 toward various anions, studied using density functional theory calculations are presented.[4] [1] D.
