Influences of liming on field crop yields in eastern Croatia
Liming experiments experiences during the period of 80ies in the last century, resulted by moderate effects on yields. For example, maize, soybean and barley grain yields increased mainly up to 10%, while wheat showed no response to lime. However, in the newer five trials application of carbocalk (waste of sugar factory) resulted mainly by cosiderable increases of field crop yields as follows: a) maize for 23% ; b) maize up to 50%, 36% and 10% for the 2001, 2002 and 2006 growing season, respectively ; sunflower up to 48%, winter barley up to 30% and wheat up to 40% ; c) double maize yield increase ; d) up to 26% (4- year mean) maize yield increases with variation these effects among the years from 7% to even 50%, sugar beet yields increases up to 43% ; e) yield increasing up to 95% (maize), 37% (soybean) and more than three-fold (wheat). In general, liming could be recommended as useful soil management practice for acid soils under environmental conditions of eastern Croatia.
