An Impact Analysis Of Chemical And Biochemical Engineering Quarterly Journal In The Period 1997-2007
In this work are presented results of impact factor analysis of publications from Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Quarterly journal in the period of the last 10 years. The impact factors are determined according to the SCI-Expanded statistical database JCR (Journal Citation Report) [1], [2]. Also are determined the number of each paper downloads according to the journal major topics: chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, environmental engineering and electrochemical engineering. The number of downloads are reported accordingly to HRCAK (Portal of Scientific Journals of Croatia) [3]. A correlation is derived between frequency of downloaded manuscripts recorded at HRCAK and number of citations reported in JCR database. A comparison of the trends in impact factors between Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Quarterly and related journals in the fields of chemical and biochemical engineering is reported. According to ISI Web of Science the number of published items in each year has increased from 24 in 1997 to 54 in 2007, while number of citations rose from 10 in 1997 to 162 in 2007. In comparison, SCOPUS refers to number of citations in 2007 is 182. Impact factor evaluated for the last five years has increased from 0.275 in 2003 to 0.353 in 2007. However, the maximum impact factor of 0.632 was reached in 2005. The distribution by cited year of citations to articles published in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Quarterly approximates a β function, with average value of 19 articles, and reaches maximum value of 33 articles in the period from 2002-2004. Contribution of self-citation is rather low, and is estimated to the level of 8 %. During this period manuscripts from Croatia represent 9.7 % of the total number of 578 publications. The analysis is aimed for improvement of the journal policy toward scientific fields which have the highest impact factor and lead to Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Quarterly overall scientific significance.
