"Make Love, not the Army!" The Role of Women in the EU's Media Programme on Unity in Diversity
The paper presents the feminist analysis of female images as shown in the clips promoted by the EU's own channel on YouTube web space called EUtube. The idea behind more than 150 of the EU's Media Programme educative clips is to generate and forge distinctively European identity that would signify much more than the social force of European common market, constitution, democratic values, norms and believes. The analysis offers examples of investing female bodies into libidinal and liberal economy of the media forged "war of dreams" (M. Augé) – opposed to Hollywood- and Bollywoodlike dreams of a happy global citizen – as a way of confirming the fact that women in European policy of identity and belonging are associated with the field of culture, education and entertainment industry.
