Cardiac changes in lymphoma patients
Some cytotoxic drugs have cardiotoxic effect. The most of standard therapeutical regiments for the first line treatment of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and Hodgkin disease as well as multiple myeloma comprise of one or more cardiotoxic drugs. The aim of treatment is erradication of disease, but in the same time not to damage the health condition of haematological patient. We analysed the cardiac findings in the indolent lymphoma patients at diagnosis and after ending of therapy. In 30 indolentlymphoma patients, 25 pts had normale ECG findings, and only 5 had minimal changes. Heart ultrasonography was performed in all patients to be treated with cadiotoxic drugs. In 4 pts it was found that cardiac ejection fracton is less then 50%. This finding changed the first line therapy, and the doxorubicin was omitted or substituted with other cytotoxic drug. In conclusion: All patients with planned chemotherapy thet include cariotoxic drugs should undergo cariodlogic examination with intention to identify the high risk patients for development of myocardial disease.
