Correction of Digital Images by Arbitrary Degree Bezier Polynomial
Algorithm for using an arbitrary degree Bé zier polynomial to correct distortions in digital images of fibrous structures has been developed. The implicit form of Bé zier polynomials makes it possible to correct structures distorted in various ways, like being wrapped over themselves. These types of distortions are common in electron microscopy of fibrous structures and high resolution metaphase chromosome spreads in karyotyping. Subsequent processing of these images requires straight images either to facilitate comparison or to use the Fourier transform for finding helical parameters of fibrous structures. The proposed methodology has an advantage over piecewise approximation in not being as sensitive to single control point errors and having a better overall fit. Examples with real data are presented.
