Prikaz knjige : Temporomandibularni poremećaji - multidisciplinarni pristup
The book "Temporomandibular dysfunction – multidisciplinary approach" describes the issue of commonly encountered problem of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) from various viewpoints (dentistry, ENT, radiology and neurology). It's about a group of psycho-physiologic disturbances of multifactorial etiology with two common characteristics: orofacial pain and dysfunction of masticatory system. This interesting book is an example of notable team work of eleven authors, and it is divided in nine chapters (units). Beside the editors, prof. Melita Valentić Peruzović and prof. Vjekoslav Jerolimov, a group of experienced teachers from School of Dental Medicine and Medical School, University of Zagreb, worked together on this book: Vesna Bašić Kes, Vida Demarin, Jakša Grgurević, Livije Kalogjera, Miljenko Marotti, Marinka Mravak-Stipetić, Josip Pandurić, Goranka Prpić-Mehičić and Robert Trotić. The book represents an important contribution to better understanding of etiological factors, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in TMD evaluation and management. Some chapters of the book deal with the orofacial pain, common symptom encountered very often in the dental office, which could refer to numerous diseases of orofacial structures, generalized musculoskeletal and rheumatic diseases, diseases of peripheral and central nervous system and physiological disorders. Unfortunately, TMD often remains a symptom of an unclear etiology, whose explanation awaits the future advances in neuroscience. Although the issue of TMD embraces several medical disciplines, notably because of its multifactorial etiology, complete communication and collaboration among them is still lacking. Therefore this book represents praiseworthy endeavour of opening the problem from various aspects, which will in future certainly result in creation of unique procedures required for successful diagnostic and treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction. This book contains plenty of data that could help dentists, neurologists, radiologists and ENT specialists in managing the patients with similar symptoms.
