Tourism Development on the Croatian Adriatic Coast: Between Ideology and Autonomy
The presentation discusses architectural and urbanistic concepts for the organization of leisure during the period of socialist consolidation of the 1960s and 1970s in Croatia. The discussion is set within the broader political, socio-economical and cultural contexts – primarily the relationship between Eastern and Western Europe. Examined is the role of “ free time” as a category through which it was possible to observe a continuous process of pervasion, overcoming, and undermining of the „ Iron Curtain“ in architecture and urban planning, and to understand East and West as a transnational, interdependent system.
