Tourism Education through Experienced Learning: A Case of ITHAS
Studies in Croatia as well as in many other countries of the world indicate a shortage of qualified human resources in tourism and hospitality. Since the success of a tourism company depends on highly qualified, professional and skilled employees who are fully aware of the changing business environment, the educational institutions with adequate tourism programmes play a crucial role in bridging the gap between employment and education. This paper aims to address an example of teaching practices developed by the Tourism Department of the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb in cooperation with four other European universities and one from Canada. This programme entitled ITHAS was set to improve the teaching methods and management education in tourism within an international and multicultural environment. The paper therefore aims to initiate discussion concerning specific challenges in preparing future graduates for the real tourism business environment.
