Synthesis and Anion Binding Study of Bisurea Adamantane Derivatives

The interest for anion sensing and detecting has been rapidly increasing through the yearsdue to pivotal roles anions play in many biological processes. The main research has been focused on finding suitable chemical compounds that can selectivity recognize anions. Within the scope of that research, we have put our attention to the synthesis and caracterization of anion sensors which incorporate polyciclic building blocks as rigid spacers. Incorporation of rigid spacers can iduce preorganization of the host molecules and thus increase binding ability and selectivity. Herein, we present synthsis of adamantane derivatives containing two urea moieties capable of attaching anions by hydrogen bonds. In order to visualize the binding of anions the molecule was also substituted by chromogenic/fluouogenic phenyl and naphthyl groups. The influence of the structureto the binding selectivity and stability of the anion complexes will be discussed.
