Pippi Longstocking in the Croatian School System and Its Reception among Primary School Pupils
Pippi Longstocking and some other works by Astrid Lindgren have attained considerable popularity in Croatia. This paper gives an overview of the publication history of Lindgren's works in Croatia and former Yugoslavia, positions Lindgren's works in the Croatian cultural and political context, and examines the results of the research into the primary reception of the novel Pippi Longstocking among the 4th year primary school pupils. It is concluded that the novel is well accepted by the pupils and that it possesses considerable methodological potential because individual events and problems faced by the main characters can be successfully used in school as a basis for classroom discussions and other activities.
