CHARACTERISTICS OF SMALL HOTELS IN CROATIA
Small hospitality evokes special interest in the analysis of management in transition in general and in Croatia as well. Its management and wider social potential is a reason enough for questioning. Within the context, analysis of small hotels represents an extra quality. This work analyses characteristics of small hotels in Croatia, based on a vast research of sixty business subjects. The research was done using the interview method, questionnaires and personal observation. The research comprises two groups of small hotels’ characteristics: general characteristics of an object (legal form, number of employees, category, size and age) and general characteristics of business (location and seasonality during a business year). The research has shown that a typical small hotel in Croatia is a trade company, i.e. LTD company and has up to twenty employees. Largest number of small hotels is categorized as a three-star hotel and consists of up to thirty accommodation units, with an average quality grade higher than other accommodation objects in Croatia. All-year long business season has imposed as an imperative and one of the ground business targets. The results of the research match the results of certain researches worldwide.
