The paper describes the results of marine research undertaken for the purpose of the design of a submarine outfall for the discharge of urban wastewater into the Brac Channel, that is 13 km wide and 35 m deep. Its volume is 16 km3 and the average time of water mass renewal is 2.25 months. Seasonal measurements of physical parameters in the period 1997/98 showed seasonal characheristics, but synoptic weather changes had a significant impact. The water column was the most stabile by the end of summer season with a termocline bellow 30 m depth. The temporal changes od chemical and biological parameters did indicate neither sea pollution nor changes in the tropical chain. The sea current measurments showed wind effects as well as local topography on the water mass circulation.
