Puccinellia teyberi Hayek (Poaceae), critical species of Croatian flora
In Croatian flora the genus Puccinellia Parl. is represented by four taxa (P. distans, P. distans subsp. limosa, P. fasciculata and P. festuciformis). These are all perennial species, usually growing on inland salt marshes, damp places and salt marshes near the sea. In 1911, Teyber described an endemic species, Atropis rupestris, from central insular Dalmatia (island of Kamik and volcanic island of Jabuka), without indicating the type material. According to the Art. 9.9. of the ICBN, lectotype has been chosen. In 1933, Hayek changed and replaced the name of Atropis rupestris in the genus Puccinellia with Puccinellia teyberi. From that day onwards this endemic species is treated as a synonym of the species P. festuciformis. Several features, such as occurrence in costal rocky places, octaploid chromosome number, palynology, and morphology indicate that P. teyberi is most closely related to P. convoluta, than to P. festuciformis. Newly revaluated species differs from P. convoluta in several morphological characters: leaf blade surface, ligule shape, spikelet flower number, lower glume length, upper glume apex, lemma apex, length and indumentum, palea indumentum and lodicule length.
