Invasive alien plant species in Medvednica Nature Park
More and more biologists are attracted to invasive species in attempts to find and explain causes and patterns of their spreading. In this paper we have analysed invasive alien plant species in Medvednica Nature Park (according to park area in 2008 year), with MTB/64 quadrants as a basic spatial unit. Altogether, 27 invasive plant species has been recorded with Erigeron annuus (L.) Pers. and Robinia pseudoacacia L. being most frequent, while Datura innoxia Mill. and Artemisia verlotiorum Lamotte has been recorded in just one and two MTB/64 quadrants, respectively. According to their systematic membership, family Asteraceae has been the numerous one with 10 species. Life form spectra revealed that therophytes are the most frequent with 44% portion. With respect to their origin, species from both America prevails, followed by those from Asia and Africa. Comparing the systematic memberships, life form spectra and origin there is no difference between invasive flora of Medvednica and Croatia. Analysis of number of invasive species per quadrant has shown that average elevation, lengths of paths and number of all recorded species can explain 44% of variability in number of invasive plants per MTB/64 quadrant. Given the fact, that flora of Medvednica Nature Park represent 22% of Croatian flora, presence of 42% of invasive plant species is making this area rich in invasive species above average. Latter indicate necessity for more intensive monitoring of their state in the Nature Park.
