Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Field Distribution inside Four-arm Spherical Resonator that Mimics Plasmonic Nanosphere
Recently proposed structures based on the spherical resonators that in the RF regime behave similarly to the plasmonic nanospheres at the optical frequencies, have been investigated both numerically and experimentally. The experimental structures are based on well-known Best’ s four-arm spherical resonator, and they were designed for operation in 150 MHz and 450 MHz RF bands. The phase distribution of the electric field measured inside and outside of the spherical resonator operated at the frequency of 150 MHz was found to be very similar to the theoretical distributions in the plasmonic nanosphere, and at the same time, consistent with the numerical predictions. In addition, the measurement of phase distribution above the linear chain of the resonators operating in 450 MHz band revealed both the backward-wave propagation and the forward-wave propagation, which is consistent with already published studies.
