Is it Possible to Overcome Basic Dispersion Constraints and Achieve Broadband Cloaking?
Majority of proposed cloak designs use metamaterials that support propagation of fast waves i.e. the relative permittivity and/or relative permeability of which are smaller than 1. Unfortunately, due to basic dispersion constraints, relative permittivity (or permeability) smaller than 1 can be achieved only within some restricted frequency band. Here, it is shown both numerically and experimentally that the basic dispersion constraints of any passive medium might be overcome by use of active transmission-line-based metamaterials. These types of metamaterials appear promising for the design of broadband cloaking devices.
