A Two-Phase Loading Model for Nonlinear Analysis of Cable Structures
This paper presents a numerical model for solving the problem of form-finding for cable structures under large displacements. Large displacements can be obtained by the incremental application of the small displacements theory. The updating of the geometric configuration from increment to increment is implemented by a special procedure called the Null Configuration Principle. The updating of the effects on the structure includes the updating of the basic and geometry stiffness matrices of small deformations, and then the updating of the loads and their influences on the internal forces. The analysis is solved in two phases. The first phase is with a pretension load, if applicable, leading to a new geometry. In the second phase, other loads (such as the gravity load) are added to the new geometry.
