Influence of the printing media on the properties of fountain solution
Lithography is based on the opposite physicalchemical properties of the printing and nonprinting areas. In the printing process the fountain solution is first applied to the nonprinting areas and it prevents adsorption of ink onto them in the next step of the printing process. During printing the fountain solution gets in contact with the media that is being printed on, mostly paper, and causes its dimensional instability, which has to be minimal, so it is essential to use as less as possible amount of the fountain solution. Vice versa, small particles of paper get inside the fountain solution and cause change of its properties. The aim of this research is to gain insight in influence of different types of paper on the fountain solution’ s properties and what effect these changes have on its function.
