Influence of plate making process and developing solutions on the nonprinting areas of offset printing plates
The difference between printing and nonprinting areas in lithography is achieved through opposite physical-chemical properties. The purpose of this research is to show how conventional plate making process influences the nonprinting areas of the printing plate. Quality was determined by observing the wetting properties of nonprinting areas. Samples of printing plate were made by varying exposure time and developing time. The developing process was performed using two developing solutions, KOH and NaOH. Results obtained by this research have shown that both parameters have significant impact on printing plate quality. Both developing solutions used in this research have similar impact on wetting properties. One should keep that in mind and make necessary adjustments before starting plate making process.
