Influence of fly ash and limestone on the properties of self-compacting concrete
Self-compacting concrete is an innovative concrete type which requires no compaction during placement. In this paper a description is given of an experimental investigation into self-compacting concrete with addition of fly ash snd limestone. Self-compacting concrete properties (compressive strength, gas permeability, chloride ion diffusion) were tested in fresh and hardened state. Different quantities of fly ash (0, 30, 40, and 50 %) and limestone (0 and 5 %) were varied in experiments. Fresh concrete properties are improved with the addition of fly ash. An analysis of test results suggested that the addition of fly ash and limestone has a positive effect on durability properties. Compressive strength values are lower with higher addition of these mineral additives. Based on the results obtained from the experiment an optimum composition of self-compacting concrete with fly ash and limestone is recommended for its application in practice.
