Optimization of the cross-sectional dimensions of structures using warping method
The aim of structural optimization is the minimization (maximization) of an objective function subjected to geometrical and behavioral constraints. The objective of this paper is to propose a very efficient numerical algorithm in the optimal design procedure. Design philosophy of this new method for solving structural optimization problems is based on the stress constraints. This new method is introduced for selected structural optimization problems where structure elements are loaded by torsional moments and where optimization of the cross-sectional dimensions is required. For this type of structure the cross-sectional geometry is partially prescribed, so the cross-section can be fully described by a finite number of variables.
