Order-picking Methods and Technologies for Greener Warehousing

In order to improve efficiency of order-picking in warehouses, there are many methods, models and technologies developed and used. Recently there are many incentives to more sustainable warehousing. More productive order-picking systems have less fuel consumption, therefore influencing greening of warehousing too. Paperless warehouse control systems have their impact on carbon footprint too. In this paper we present an overview of order-picking methods and technologies and their potential in improving order-picking efficiency, based on reducing traveling distances and by that fuel consumption, as well as other elements of greener warehousing.
