Influence of electric power station operational conditions on low-temperature corrosion appearance in rotary heat regenerator

The influence of electic power station operating conditions such as fuel composition, coefficient of excess air for combustion and loading of the electric power station on the appearance of low-temperature corrosion in a rotary regenerative air preheater in the boiler system has been analyzed in this paper. Heat and mass transfer between streams of smoke gases and air have been analyzed numerically with the aim of determining the matrix temperature distribution inside the regenerator, since sulfuric acid vapour condensation occurs in the area where the matrix temperature is lower than the saturation temperature of the sulfuric acid vapour. It has been concluded that the appearance of low-temperature corrosion can be most effectively prevented by adjusting a suitable air inlet temperature to prevent cooling of the matrix material below the saturation temperature of the sulfuric acid vapour. The paper therefore analyzes the effect of fuel composition, coefficient of excess air for combustion and power station loading on the values of limit air inlet temperature in the regenerator. Also, the practical application of the analysis performed has been presented in the paper.
