Leukocytoclastic vasculitis associated with insulin aspart in a patient with type 2 diabetes
An increasing number of patients with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes are being prescribed insulin analogues. Insulin aspart has some pharmacokinetic advantages compared to unmodified human insulin. Faster absorption after subcutaneous administration and higher plasma levels resemble physiological meal-stimulated insulin release more closely than human insulin (1). Glycaemic control is improved with less interprandial and noctural hypoglycaemia (2). We present a patient experiencing vasculitis during the course of insulin aspart treatment. Literature search yielded no similar cases reported.
