Determination of the shallow foundation bearing capacity loaded by uplift forces
Bearing capacity of foundations with tension forces depends not only with their dimensions and the shear strength parametars of the soil but also with the technology of the excavation of the footings. Experiences and measurements on the in situ models had shawn that the largest bearing capacity with the smallest deformations are achieved with the nonvertical excavation. That means that the bottom plan area of the excavation is bigger than the plan area on the ground surface. Analitical procedures for the computations of this type of foundations for the lareyed soil are developed. These procedures are checked with existing models and verifed on a few field models.
