ANALSES OF DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RESULTS IN SWIMMING NORMS ATTAINED BY MALE AND FEMALE STUDENTS FROM DIFFERENT STUDYING GENERATIONS AT THE FACULTY OF KINESIOLOGY

The main objective of this research was to determine differences between results achieved by male and female students in swimming norms, which include all techniques, in academic years 1998./1999. and 2005./2006. Sample of participants was represented by a male and female students of a third year at the Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb, which all have passed exam from subject Swimming (including all norms prescribed by a programme), and was comprised of 93 male and 58 female from generation of students from academic year 1998/1999, and of 123 male and 51 female from generation of students from academic year 2005/2006. Seven tests were implemented for each subgroup. Male subjects were tested on 25m, 50m and 300m front crawl stroke, on 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 100m medley. Female subjects were tested on 25m, 50m and 200m front crawl stroke, on 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 100m medley. Discriminative function in first analysis (Wilks'-Lambda= .91) differs results of two groups of male students from different generations statistically significant. (p- level=.00), and as well as that the discriminative function in the second analysis (Wilks'-Lambda= .74) differs results of two groups of female students from different generations statistically significant. (p- level=.00). Partial contributions to general differences determined previously for male students were identified for variables 25m crawl (F=12, 27 ; p=0, 00), 50m butterfly (F=4, 63 ; p=0, 03) and 100m medley (F=5, 46 ; p=0, 02). Results of partial discriminative analysis of differences between female students were almost likewise, which means that there were statistically significant contributions to general differences found in variables 25m front crawl stroke (F=9, 36 ; p=0, 00), 100m medley (F=25, 53 ; p=0, 00), with a difference in variable 100m breaststroke (F=8, 24 ; p=0, 00) and 25m butterfly where no statistical significance of contribution to general differences was found.
