Ovarian serous borderline tumors
Recent molecular studies showing a different frequency of p53 and KRAS mutation in serous carcinoma as compared to serous borderline tumors Most studies of serous neoplasms have shown different molecular changes in serous cystadenomas, borderline tumors and high grade carcinomas, indicating that in most cases these tumors develop via different genetic pathways. Serous borderline tumors have a higher rate of KRAS mutations (25-35%) than high grade serous carcinomas (0-12%). BRAF mutations, which are found in 35-50% serous borderline tumors of typical or micropapillary type have not been identified in high-grade serous carcinoma. Similar frequency of KRAS and BRAF mutations were found in low grade (invasive micropapillary serous carcinoma).
