The effects of soil tillage systems and nitrogen fertilisation on weed infestation in winter wheat
The experiments were conducted on humogley soil type in Eastern Croatia during two winter wheat seasons, l994-95 and l995-96 with five soil tillage treatments and four nitrogen levels. The aim of this study was to determine effects of these measures on weed infestation in winter wheat crop. On the basis of weed biomass levels, the five tillage systems could be ranked in a decreasing order as: ploughing (20 cm), seedbed preparation + sowing by rotosem ; tillage by multitiller with chisels ; disk- harrowing (10 cm) ; conventional tillage and seedbed preparation (rototiller) + sowing by rotosem. Four nitrogen levels had significantly increased weed biomass in relation from 0 to 170 kg. After adding 200 kg ha-1 of nitrogen no such increase was observed.
