Sensitivity experiments with locally modified land surface
The impact of locally modified boundary conditions on seasonal time-scale predictability is studied from a series of experiments with TL159-L40 ECMNWF global circulation model. The broadleaf and mixed forests over the northern part of South America were replaced by tall grass. The model response in precipitation is confined mostly to the tropics and smaller spatial scales. The amplitude of surface warming is stronger in the case of extreme albedo.
