Hybridization between Mediterranean groupers: Epinephelus marginatus (female) x E. aeneus (male)and early development
The sperm of sex-reversed white grouper, Epinephelus aeneus male, inseminated eggs of dusky grouper, Epinephelus marginatus. Most of the hybrid egg developmental characteristics, including percent fertilisation, regular cleavages, percent hatching and deformation, were similar in hybrid and dusky grouper. Larvae of both types were not significantly different in length or in growth rate during the yolk sac resorption. Both larvae had similar types of pigmentation. The reason of massive larval mortality was formation of urinary calculus and for both groups was similar.
