Matrix characterization of sea floor in threat material detection processes

Results obtained by using the FNAA with the associated alpha particle for underwater analysis (salinity of 38 g/l) of Ca, Mg–rocks and Si-rocks, which are the main type of rocks found in the Adriatic Sea, have been presented. Geochemical data of coastal sea sediments in the Adriatic Sea acquired by the EDXRF analysis are also presented. The data obtained can be used to evaluate the background for neutron sensor underwater applications used in threat material analysis.
