Testing of fracture mechanical parameters in concrete by means of wedge splitting test
In this work, the new equipment designed in order to determine the fracture mechanical properties of concrete is described and discussed. A special investigation concerning the friction influence during force transfer, COD-measurement unit mounting and fixing and stable crack growth were carried out. Some test results obtained with this equipment are compared to the results obtained by several autors and by finite elements analysis. A good agreement is observed and outlined as well as the general advantages of the method: model simplicity, equipment simplicity and stable results. Designed equipment enable experimental determination of the various fracture mechanics parameters and make their determination as simple as cube strength tests.
