Views of Parents and Teachers Towards Behaviour of Hearing and/or Speech Impaired Students
Partner relationship among students, teachers and parents is an important factor in the process of students’ education. Establishing of positive emotional connections in the relation parent – child and child – teacher is a precondition for healthy development of a child that is indispensable for emotional and social maturity. This is very noticeable in the education process of students with difficulties in development. This research aimed to define if there are differences in views of parents and teachers towards behaviour of hearing impaired students and students with speech and language disorders. Targets of research are to reveal the views of parents and teachers towards: • students attention • students impulsiveness • students activity Following the goals defined by research and considering the results of similar recent research it was the most reasonable in this paper to start from the hypothesis: • H1 - views of parents and teachers towards students’ behaviour statistically do not differ. Methods/methodology The examinee sample consists of 17 parents of students with speech and language disorders, 5 teachers who work with 17 students in the third grade of the SUVAG Polyclinic Elementary School, 10 parents of hearing impaired students and 5 teachers who work with these students. It was questioned 27 parents of pupils with difficulties in development and 10 teachers all together. The measuring instrument was “Questionnaire for identifying views of parents and teachers towards hearing and/or speech impaired students behaviour” particularly set up for the needs of this paper. For identifying views we applied Likert type scale. Respondents had to choose one of three answers offered to the statement established: 1. I completely agree 2. I mostly agree 3. I disagree The survey was in a written form carried out under the supervision of school expert team during 2008. Data were processed by SPSS for Windows programme, version 13. Using procedures of descriptive statistics respond frequencies were processed on variables for total sample. Expected Outcomes Views of parents and teachers towards pupils with difficulties in development can influence behaviour of students and their successful education and rehabilitation. Relation between school and family enters in one of those areas of pedagogical science that are still insufficiently investigated. We consider this pilot research to throw light on some lack of clarity on quality of relationship between school and family and to be an impulse for further researches.
