EDUCATION OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS FOR TEACHING DEMOCRATIC CITIZENSHIP

Authors' interest is focused on conceptual issues of education for democratic citizenship and interpretation of its various aspects, with special emphasis on primary education and teachers' competences for teaching the values of active and responsible citizenship, stressing their role in the realization of the ideals of democracy and human rights, based on the values of peace, understanding, friendship and tolerance. Teachers are perceived as promoters and ambassadors of these social values. Education for democratic citizenship involves multi-perspective, interdisciplinary and contextual approach to learning and teaching, methods of active teaching and learning, promotion of participatory and democratic school culture and collaboration and partnership between all the institutions at the local, national and international level.
