Renaissance Music Writers Originating from Croatian Lands
The text consists of the survey of personalities and topics concerning music, written and printed by authors originating from Croatia or by Croatian origins from the late 14th to the 16th century. They are: Petar Pavao Vergerije Sr. ; Federik Grisogono-Bartolačić ; Bartol Georgijević ; Luigi Bassano ; Matija Vlačić Ilirik ; Pavao Skalić ; Frane Petrić ; Miho Monaldi ; Nikola Vitov Gučetić ; Faust Vrančić. These texts differ in treating specific music topics, in the author's competency, and in the purposes for which they were written. All texts form parts or fragments of larger books written on various non-musical subjects, being no independent musico-theoretical treateses. They mostly deal with historical or speculative aspects of music, with no interest in practical music production. The topics treat either typical Western general humanistic or scholarly themes or Eastern topics such as the rudimental profile of Turkish-Ottoman musical culture.
